Here Then. Here Now. Here Next.

In 1926, George and Annie Wood made the decision to move from their teeming children’s home in Olds, Alberta to the Bowness community. This move expanded not only their space but their ability to say YES to ever more children and families in need.

Here, what began as an orphanage in Bowness grew into something far greater than they could have imagined. Over the past century, Wood’s Homes has said YES to caring for thousands of young people and families through moments of crisis, growth, and hope. Through changing times,  evolving needs, and new understandings of mental health, one thing has remained constant: We never give up; we say YES, Through It ALL.

Today, among several locations across Alberta, Bowness remains the heart of our story. The campus stands as a place of healing for children, young people, and families, delivering 21st-centruy mental health care shaped by community belief and collective strength.

As we mark 100 years in Bowness, reflecting on our past inspires us as we build the future. The needs of children, young people, and families have never been more complex; mental health challenges continue to rise; and young people are just as deserving of spaces that reflect dignity, safety, and possibility.

Through It ALL, we carry on.

Wood’s Homes is looking to the next century of care in Bowness by building four new cottages, growing from 32 beds to 40; a 28% growth in capacity. With 21st-century care at the core of this expansion, these modern, purpose-built spaces are designed to meet young people where they are and help them move toward where they want to be.

This next chapter is about creating environments where healing happens, connections are made, and futures are shaped.

It’s about ensuring that 100 years from now, Wood’s Homes is still saying YES to young people and families who need it most.

Together, we will celebrate the impact that was made when a community chose care, and what’s possible when we carry that commitment forward.

Because a community that cares makes everything possible.

We hope you’ll join us in celebrating 100 years of our Bowness Campus.
