Volunteer Title: IOH Impact Maker

Summary:  

Inglewood Opportunity Hub (IOH) offers immediate, barrier-free, and equitable supports and services in collaboration with youth and young adults in the community. The multi-disciplinary team of professionals of the IOH provide essential need support, housing support, employment support, wellness and recovery support, as well as mental health services. Youth and young adults are offered expert wraparound services with the trauma-informed, client- and family-centred team, comprised of Youth & Family Counsellors, Addictions Specialists, Employment Counsellors, Clinician, and Red Seal Chefs. 

As an IOH Impact Maker, you will provide quality supports to the staff and clients of Wood’s Homes. You will represent Wood’s Homes and IOH to community professionals, the public, and individuals and families. This is an in-person volunteer opportunity. 

Time Commitment: minimum of one shift (4-8 hours) per month   

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Welcoming clients into the milieu, and keeping track of services provided to the client 
  • Aiding the provision of essential needs like coffee, hot meals, food hamper, clothing, and hygiene supplies. 
  • Supporting the upkeep of the milieu to maintain a safe and welcoming environment 
  • Organizing and sorting donations, and assembling outreach kits as directed 
  • Helping, as needed, in other spaces of the IOH, including the social enterprises 
  • Connecting with clients in the milieu that is respectful of their history and background 
  • Actively communicate with community resources regarding Wood’s Homes clientele and programs 
  • Complete all required role-related and health and safety training. 
  • Report workplace hazards, unsafe or unhealthy conditions, or incidents (including near misses, injuries, or equipment damage) to the direct supervisor 
  • Participate in ongoing professional development 
  • Uphold the values of Wood’s Homes 

Health and Safety 

  • All volunteer work performed for Wood’s Homes must meet the requirements identified in the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation, and Code and comply with the Wood’s Homes Occupational Health and Safety Management System. 
  • Know your rights as a volunteer. 
  • Communicate with staff at Wood’s Homes about any situations that occur during your volunteer shift.

  • Uphold our values and prioritize safety at Wood’s Homes. 
  • Volunteers in this role will:
  • Provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive support to clients 
  • Collaborate with staff to enhance service delivery

Qualifications 

  1. Interest in community development, wellness; lived experiences in experiencing homelessness, and in active recovery 
  1. Able to complete written documentation within established time frames. 
  1. Must have own transportation. 
  1. Cultural competency, proficiency in multiple languages is an asset, and/or being part of an equity-deserving group as valued assets  
  1. Personal suitability.
